The Ascendant Sign as Baby Birds

bird-2234964_960_720

I have been reading Howard Sasportas recently and came across a technique I quite fancy. He briefly mentions the rising sign as a baby bird hatching from its shell. What kind of a bird is this? How does this bird hatch from its shell? These are the questions the sign of the ascendant answers, showing how you approach new things. I thought it’d be a fun exercise to do a write up on the signs and their bird’s hatching personality, so here it is! Feel free to comment, message, or respond with your own creative interpretations.

Aries rising: You almost violently peck away at the shell surrounding you, eager to see what that brightness is on the outside- eager to see what the ‘outside’ actually is! You break open the shell and immediately jump out, feeling spiky pine-needles under your feet, step up the edge of the nest, and burst into the air, ready to explore the world!

Taurus rising: You know its time to break open your shell but you’re warm and you’re unsure of what you’ll find. You can feel yourself crushed against the edges and know you can’t stay much longer. You worry about your safety. You realize your tummy is rumbling. You decide to break open the shell with steady punctures to the same side. The world is bright. You scream for food and your mother shoves crushed worms down your throat. You feel the cool breeze on your feathers. Maybe this isn’t so bad…

Gemini rising: You can hardly wait to burst out of this shell, you can’t stop thinking of all the possibilities that the outside has to offer! You start to peck. The light that shines through the cracks delights you so much you start to sing. You hear your mother singing back. You peck yourself to freedom and take in the colors, the vast assortment of sounds. You thought you’d be satisfied seeing the outside, but you are more curious than ever.

Cancer rising: You know you have to leave your shell, but the thought of it makes you want to cry. You secretly fear you will never find the comfort of your shell again. You refuse to leave. Eventually, you grow so large you break open your shell. You cry because the air is so cold and the sky is so bright. Your mother curls up next to your side. The light seems more bearable and the warmth is better than you ever thought possible. You feel like you can do anything!

Leo rising: You wait until sounds around your shell quiet, and you know it’s your time. You peck yourself out of your shell, opening your wings as if embracing the world. The others in the nest look at you in awe. You know how to make an appearance. The sun shines through your feathers just right and you feel like the king of the world.

Virgo rising: You peck once in the lower left corner of your shell, once in the lower right, and three times at the very top, creating a hole perfectly big enough to fit yourself through. You leave the shell, wipe off the remnants, and shake yourself off.

Libra rising: You hear the chatter outside your shell and excitedly peck yourself out of it, eager to join the others. You know it’s the right time because they are all out of their shells already. You wobble your way over to the other birds, stand directly in the middle of two of your siblings, and learn how to chirp with the rest of them.

Scorpio rising: You’re extremely apprehensive about leaving your shell. There seems to be something not right ‘out there.’ Even though you hear your other siblings, you have a feeling they will all start to shriek any second now. You realize that whatever danger is out there, they can’t handle it on their own! You burst through your shell with one fierce peck. Everything seems okay. You start to relax…but keep a sharp piece of your shell near by ‘just in case…’

Sagittarius rising: You peck three times, then twice, then a couple more, and eventually you are free. What does this mean? Freedom? You ask your mother. She tries to feed you a worm. You try to explain that you don’t have time for such trivialities but she insists. You take the worm, choke it down, then fly into the air without any goodbyes. There’s too much to explore, too little time to explore it!

Capricorn rising: You weigh the pros and cons of leaving your shell. Cons, you will no longer be warm, you are unsure of what is out there, you are actually kind of scared (you take that back, you’re never scared). Pros, there’s so much more potential outside of your shell as inside there are zero. You decide to make the leap. You peck yourself out of your shell, slowly, and deliberately. You observe your surroundings and decide how you are going to manipulate them to your benefit.

Aquarius rising: You have no reason for pecking in random intervals at the shell around you, but you find yourself doing it anyway. There’s a peck there, three pecks here, you take a short break and ponder what a strange process birthing is. You eventually end up outside of your shell covered in million tiny pieces. You see your siblings on the other side of the nest trying to share a worm. You wobble over and cut it into equal pieces and you all share together happily.

Pisces rising: You don’t even need to peck open your shell because it melts away around you. The nest melts away too and you find yourself floating in the warmth of the sun you never knew existed until that day, and you wonder how you got there, quickly lose the thought, and just enjoy the moment.

Mars in Aries

horoscope-639126_640

Those with their Mars in Aries are feisty individuals. They have extremely high energy levels, like most fire signs, and need to have an outlet for this since Mars is the planet of action! Mars is at home in Aries- it feels alive here, and Aries loves to use Mars to its advantage. Together, they create an individual who is passionate about ACTION. They are driven- sometimes embarking on new projects without fully planning them out or thinking realistically about them. They may miss small details because they are so impulsive, leaving either picking up the pieces later on…or more likely, quickly forgetting about it and moving on to the next thing. They may have quick tempers but they forget their anger as quickly as is comes. Sometimes they say and do things in the heat of the moment that they regret later but they chalk it up to living in the moment and try to not let it bother them- and it usually doesn’t. They speak what’s on their mind when it’s on their mind. Mars in Aries need to be true to themselves and that means baring it all. They hate lazy people and find them quite boring. They are not known for being patient. Long lines and slow-walkers frustrate them. They find speedy and adequate more impressive than slow and pristine. If they are not getting adequate exercise, they tend to get annoyed easily with everyone and everything, so it is important to stay active. Many Mars in Aries like the feeling of leading the way. They are natural born leaders and so being in a leadership position makes them feel good about themselves, like they are fulfilling their role in life. If you can’t keep up with them…they will not stop nor look back. That brings us to relationships regarding Mars in Aries…it’s no surprise that these people tend to hop from one person to another- they passionately fall for someone as quickly as they leave them. They need a partner that doesn’t need anything special to get turned on and is in the mood when they’re in the mood. They need immediate results as they are not keen on delayed gratification. A partner who is lively, ambitious, sexual, active will keep a Mars in Aries person’s interest. They love to chase, whether they ‘have’ the person or not, so things need to constantly stay interesting. Sex is important. Emotions are important in long-term relationships, but they’d rather not talk about them much and just acknowledge that they are there. Sensitive people should avoid trying to be serious with Mars in Aries as they tend to be a little aggressive and persistent. They aren’t good at sugar-coating and find it in disingenuous to do so anyway. They are huge into individuality and will defend themselves vehemently to take the path they decide to take. If you can offer a Mars in Aries a good time, add some feisty undertones, and keep them on their toes…they will be in complete awe of you.

Mars in Sagittarius

fantasy-2770468_640

Considering that Mars is the planet of action, when we apply it to our personal charts it becomes how we take action. With Mars in Sagittarius, action is almost constant. These people have high energy levels and tend to move around a lot. They are excited by anything ‘new’ which means that they are continuously starting new projects, meeting new people, traveling to new places, learning new things, etc. Mars in Sagittarius does not care much for reputation but they do not want to be viewed as lazy or unintelligent. They are extremely invested in their own personal morality and can talk passionately about it for long periods of time given an ear that listens. They do not do well to criticism toward their belief system and will defend it vehemently. When they find others that agree with them, they tend to become instant friends and can create close bonds with others extremely quickly. This can also end very quickly, as Sagittarius is used to hopping from one thing to the other without much afterthought. They need to be stimulated physically and mentally in order to stay interested in an activity or a person. This means that they may not have many long-term relationships because they may get bored of the same person for too long. If their significant other can satisfy them sexually and mentally, they may stay in the relationship long enough to develop a true emotional connection. There is fine line with these people though- they tend to get scared when others are emotionally investing in them, or when they start to emotionally invest in someone else. They usually leave for fear of commitment, but again, if satisfied enough to stay, and if an emotional connection is shared, then the Sagittarian lover will be loyal and doting. Those with their Mars in Sagittarius thrive off of new experiences. They treat everything they encounter as something they can put in their learning bank. They like to talk about things they’ve done, but they LOVE to talk about things they are planning to do. They tend to be able to make friends wherever they go because they are very interesting people. They know a lot about a variety of subjects (because they love to learn!) and have a good sense of humor. They can be a little loud and quirky, but people are drawn to them because of this. They are super fun to be around and tend to be the life of the party, or at least the highlight of someone’s night. Mars in Sagittarius is optimistic and otherworldly- they are not known for being super realistic but think that anything is possible so what’s the point of limiting yourself! They usually have a unique and infectious laugh and are good at making other people laugh. They are inspired by invention, generosity, grandeur, and motion. They are impressed by those who never tire, who are strong, fast, and innovative. They tend to be body-conscious and want to look lean, or at the least, healthy. They enjoy excelling and don’t like to be in second place. Sometimes these people can get a ‘god-complex’ which is normal for Jupiter-ruled people, but it can be offset with plenty of outlets to let out their energy, both mental and physical. Mars in Sagittarius is one that likes to share their knowledge with others, to teach others, but does not like to be called out for being wrong or preachy. When called preachy, Sagittarius tends to then GET preachy, if they weren’t before. They want you to have their same opinion and it pains them when you don’t at least admit to seeing their side of things. They are generally pretty open-minded despite this and forgive transgressions quickly and easily. They don’t like to have people on their ‘bad side’ or to be on someone else’s.

Capricorn Musing

fc,550x550,black

I recently met a lovely stranger while I was sitting at the bar at my place of employment after getting off, and of course, as always, he was a Capricorn. (In case you haven’t read any of my musings before, most the strangers I feel drawn toward and are drawn toward me are Capricorns. I believe because my Neptune and Uranus in Capricorn conjunction in the 2nd house, opposing my Mars in the 8th, but ya know it’s up for debate). ANYWAY; he wanted an explanation on Capricorn. The typical questions ‘WHO AM I?’ ‘WHAT DOES THIS SAY ABOUT ME?’ that I cannot answer so simply. Most don’t care even for legitimacy, just a quick little tidbit they can nod their head to. Instead I went into the story of the sea goat. I hope you Capricorns know you are half water, and that long, mermaid tail you have has been ignored so long it almost doesn’t exist. But it does! In the mist. This is why Capricorns tend to have a spiritual interest to them even though they often keep it tucked away. They still like to gather the information, and admit to no one that they are, just in case that feeling they have inside is right and not just their imagination. Their imagination is lovely! Bursting with spiritual symbols, if they embrace it. They connect with their Cancer sisters and brothers through the beauty of emotion and the human condition. The constant moving forward. Cappys that don’t move forward can often times get depressed- where is the meaning? The meaning is finding your tail! Sound silly? Good. Cappys have a good sense of humor. Those that use it are less often sad. The world is harsh being ruled by Saturn, I know. But connecting with your moon sign, that Cancer nurturing, will bring you back into the ocean of possibility and the vastness of experience, love, emotion, dreams! You are close to the end of the Zodiac, little loves, rising above as the last Cardinal sign to give one final push toward freedom- and then you enter into Aquarius, feel the water out a little, and then are submerged fully into Pisces never to return the same again. Connect, Capricorns! You are the sea goat after all. You are not just earth bound.

12th house Cusp

gothic-2910057_640

Whichever sign is on the cusp of your 12th house will give you a general idea of how you face the energy of this house. 12th house energy is associated with Pisces and Neptune. It is foggy, uncertain, spiritual, deep, introspective, secretive, confusing, chaotic. It rules the collective unconscious, mental disorders, things unseen, hidden information, and mysticism.

Sign on the cusp of the 12th house-

Leo- The search for enlightenment is highly individualized and creative for you. You may feel that art or creating is what keeps you in tune with the spirit. Being recognized for your efforts is important to you, but you also want others to be recognized for their efforts. Sharing your experience can make this the best of both worlds. Helping others help themselves. You must focus on taming your ego to reap the benefits of the 12th house.

Sagittarius- Your spiritual journey is far reaching and experimental. You enjoy gaining as many new experiences as you can in different types of spirituality in order to see what works for you. You make your own truth. Getting out there and exploring is your best bet in discovering that truth. You’ll be a life long learner and will encourage others to do the same. You feel most energized when you ride the waves of consciousness. You must be willing and open to new ideas in order to reap the benefits of the 12th house.

Aries- You are quick to judge or accept spiritual ideas and must learn to feel your way through them rather than jump into things. You may find yourself finding a path and rushing to change your life around it before you even realize what’s going on. If you are already on a path, you are childlike in your awe of the universe and can easily find the positive in situations. To gain the benefits of the 12th, take time to relax and feel through things without writing them off so quickly.

Virgo- Realistic results are what you aim for and you may ignore spirituality if it isn’t giving you what you want fast enough. You will look into things with great detail whether you admit it to others or not. If you are on a spiritual journey, you will follow all the rules and do everything by the book. Release your 12th house potential by letting your mind and research take a break, and trust your intuition instead.

Taurus- You can feel the beauty in the world but may not be able to see it. You are connected with the earth spiritually and nature will boost your optimism. You are stubborn when trying to change your mind and don’t know how to trust your intuition without stubbornly clinging to already decided upon ideas. The 12th house can be activated by exploring things you may not see as true, just for the sake of exploring them and releasing yourself from the material to see where your true values are.

Capricorn- You may ignore spiritual quests and see them as a waste of time. But deep down, when you take time to explore yourself, you can feel something more than all the physical things around you. When you take your spirituality seriously, you will be the leader that makes ideas into reality. You are the water-goat, essentially, you can swim the depths of Pisces and come back up onto the land to explain and share what you have seen. 12th house potential will be unlocked through opening yourself up to it, to put it simply.

Scorpio- The spiritual quest is not all butterflies and dandelions for you. You can see the dark and light and know that the integration is what it’s truly all about. You are possibly psychic (especially with planets here) and highly intuitive in spiritual matters and can sense right and wrong. Your spiritual journey is intense and transforming. Those who don’t open themselves up to this may fear spirituality and try to ignore it but it will always be lurking in the back of their minds. Unlock your potential by seeking compassion and linking it with duality. The 12th house will continuously give you new things to learn, so embrace them with a positive attitude.

Pisces- Neptune is at home here. There is magic in every day life for you if you know where to look- and you probably do. You have psychic powers (especially with a planet here) and can trust your gut to guide you. Riding the waves is easy for you but it’s easy to get lost or bogged down in escapism. To unlock your 12th house potential give yourself healthy boundaries and goals when you feel to ‘off the tracks’ and share with others what you’re thinking rather than keeping it to yourself. You are a teacher of the truest compassion there is. Use this gift!

Cancer- Nurturing others is your main goal toward spirituality. You can sense others’ emotions and feelings and see where it comes from, making you a very valuable healer. You were meant for energy work or counseling. The spiritual journey is a personal one and you put a lot of emotion into it. You can feel emotionally overwhelmed oftentimes, but this can be in a good way. Unlock your 12th house potential by learning how to harness your emotions and turn them into something productive in order to help others and yourself.

Gemini- The amount of information out there can be highly overwhelming and you may just put spiritual matters on the back burner if it gets too much. Or you could simply learn everything there is to know but not take it quite seriously or not know how to live it. When learning how to balance the information and picking out what rings true to you and what works for you, you can be a storehouse for information. To truly get your potential out of the 12th house, practice what you preach and don’t overdo the amount of information you’re letting in. Baby steps!

Libra- When on a path, you want nothing more than to share that path with others. Finding a teacher or mentor is important for you. Finding students is also important. You want to connect with others and can do this through your spiritual path especially using energy and mediation. If something doesn’t help you and another get closer or share an experience, it doesn’t fit into your ideal of a spiritual practice. You’d be perfect for meditation groups or yoga retreats. To unlock 12th house potential, learn how to walk by yourself and then when you have, invite others to join you.

Aquarius- The humanitarian! You are truly a visionary. You are idealistic but realistic and therefor can get things done. You understand how powerful the mind is and how everyone and everything connects together in perfect harmony. You desire to help others rise above emotional turmoil. Your personal quest is aimed toward global change and you will not rest until everyone knows the truth. This can also take a wrong turn toward arrogance or believing you are better than others if you cannot get the change you wish to see. The 12th house is about compassion, so use your goodwill toward men and link it with true emotional compassion in order to gain benefits from this house.
