A quick look at Eris

people-2575969_640

Eris recently caught my eye and after doing hours of research I realized that not many people write about this dwarf planet. Many don’t bother to look at Eris in their charts, but for those who have Eris conjuncting a personal planet or making a tight aspect to important parts of their chart, they might come up frustrated in their search for meaning.

Though Eris hasn’t been studied extensively and there are many different theories on how it plays out in our charts, it’s worth taking a look at.

Eris is known as being rather treacherous. She belongs with Mercury, painting herself as a trickster in the arena of archetypes, but also connects with Mars and Aries as she demands action. She is known to cause discord and chaos. I do not believe Eris is intrinsically bad. Just like Pluto can cause major destruction, it’s well known that that destruction is making way for better and brighter things in our lives. It’s clearing out what we either didn’t know needed to be cleared or were to scared to scared to clean out ourselves. Eris follows this same rule but in a different twist. She desires transformation in the way one approaches and thinks, and she often does it in a unique and poetic way. Being creative about teaching one harsh lessons can seem cruel, but we must let her abide by her personal flavor. You can’t take the trick out of the trickster, you can just learn what they’re trying to teach you.

Essentially, Eris is brash and unapologetic, but she is not cruel. She uses clever tactics in order to force you to think deeply about what she’s telling you. She works in metaphors and symbols, urging you to delve in rather than ignore. If she is ignored, dire consequences are to be had. The more you push her out, the harder she will strike. The earlier you acknowledge and the more flexible you are in adhering to what she’s teaching, the lighter the ‘sentence’ will be.

Take a look at your chart- planets in TIGHT aspect to Eris and the house Eris resides in shows where you likely learn most of your harsh lessons through difficult ordeals that may seem simply ‘unfair.’ These ordeals may be very shocking, seem cruel, or have you saying ‘why me?’ Perhaps on a lighter side they may be ironic or even humorous. Eris in a house can shed light on where you’ve been forced to change your mind and be more flexible. It’s possible that you will have to morph your ways relating to the house/planet for the rest of your life- hopefully with it being easier and easier as time goes on.

Mars, Reporting for Duty

mars-2051748_960_720

Mars can be seen as an active force the sun uses to bring about its desires. The Sun decides something and Mars works to achieve whatever that ‘something’ is. Mars and the Sun need to work together in our charts in order for us to be successful in our endeavors. Keep in mind that success is subjective.

Our charts can hinder this energy exchange between our Sun and Mars or it can allow it to flow easily. Take a look at the aspects in your chart between your Sun and your Mars. Easy aspects, such as a trine or a sextile, can show free flowing energy exchanges. The houses can point to where the energy is likely to focus around.

‘Difficult’ aspects, such as a square or an opposition can hinder this energy exchange. They can make it difficult for both planets to agree with each other. Mars might rebel against the Sun’s orders- this is because Mars has a different agenda than the Sun. An opposition can be remedied easier than a square because both agree on certain terms and they need to come to a happy medium, no one side of the teeter-totter gets more pull, and both sides are equal, creating harmony. A square needs to be sorted out more carefully. This sorting can be done through checking other aspects your Sun and Mars have and finding commonalities. Be creative with the houses and signs they hold and figure out how they can work together.

If Mars and the Sun don’t hold any aspects, problems arise by both operating independently. You may feel torn on what actions to take. Mars might be in overdrive and ignore the wishes of the Sun, driving through projects but not feeling like have much success or feeling like your actions don’t actually represent who you are. Sun might go into overdrive, ignoring the wishes Mars, lowering desire and passion, finding you have little drive to carry out tasks. When brought to your attention, you can see the wishes of both planets and give them both the attention they need, and in turn, they will work together, allowing you to thrive.

Conjunctions of the Sun and Mars create a ton of energy, mental and/or physical, and can be used for an infinite amount of energy working toward goals. It can also burn out quickly if other planets aren’t given proper attention. Mars teamed with the sun in a conjunction often overpowers the rest of the chart, so make sure to nurture your other planets and let them in on the plan so you don’t fizzle out.

When Mars and the Sun are working together, we will feel clean energy on our life path. When they are not working together, or working together in the wrong direction, we will feel sapped of energy despite great efforts. Listen to your energy levels- Mars will tell you if you’re on the right path or not. What energizes you? What sparks your passion? What makes you feel tired and weak? Follow your energy.

Progressed Retrograde Mars

moon-3141248_960_720

Looking beyond our natal chart and into secondary progressions can be eye-opening. It can show us things we didn’t catch during real-time transits. Progressed planets are SO important when furthering your astrological studies and delving into your own psychological development.

Any major change in a progressed chart is life-altering. It isn’t a simple moon transiting mars for a couple days event, it’s a matter of years, and even sometimes, a lifetime. Retrograde plants in a progressed chart are crucial time stamps for mapping out our personal development. Retrograde planets in general point at internal functions.

Before Mars turns retrograde, it stations. This period of time doesn’t last very long in real-time, but in the symbolic realm of secondary progressions, it lasts years. If you have a retrograde mars in your progressed chart, go back and check when it was stationary and revving up (if you can even use revving in relation to a retrograde motion, ha!) to hit retrograde. When mars is stationary in your progressed chart, it is a beautiful time of swirling energy. It’s a powerful time when all types of energies swirl around in your consciousness and allow you to use them to their full potential, bridging between the past, present and future. They connect, break apart, throw ideas at you- an overwhelming yet exciting time to collect. Take those years to serve your higher self, work with the energies you want and leave the ones no longer serving you, because when retrograde hits, you will delve deep inside yourself.

When finally hitting retrograde, you’re officially in it for the long-haul. Mars will likely stay retrograde for the rest of your life, or at least the majority of your life, depending on how old you were when it first turned. This is nothing to fear, but instead, something to embrace. Mars retrograde in a progressed chart shows an individual deeply invested in their personal energy, someone who reflects on their actions and their life. When used positively, it breeds mystics, astrologers, healers, and lovers. This internalized mars energy is incredibly potent, it has the power to manifest in ways others may think impossible. Life gave these natives a tool for bringing new beauty into the world.

Mars retrograde, whether in a natal or progressed chart needs to be aware of the positives as well as the negatives. The sign Mars is in can dictate the type of energy felt and therefor the type of actions manifested and internalized. When Mars is in a fire sign, this energy can be aggressive if not nurtured in the correct way. When retrograde fire, it can turn to self-hatred and self-aggression. If nurtured in the correct way, fire retrograde can create immediate manifestations. If has the potential to inspire and spread like wildfire. It has the ability to bring light and excitement to their lives and others’ lives. Air and earth mars signs, when retrograde, are slightly easier to deal with as they are less reactive than the fire element. Air can say exactly what needs to be said to inspire change, they can use communication and action to truly change the world. Earth Mars retrograde has a never ending supply of endurance, they can use their energy to create things that will last. Water Mars retrograde can be difficult if the emotional energy turns depressive or too caught up in the past. Mars retrograde naturally deals with the past, it re-works things it’s tried before until success. The positive potential for water mars retrograde shows a deep love and unconditional nurturing of themselves and others. They are introspective and intuitive and can use those skills to heal those around them.

Mars retrograde in the progressed chart shows a lifetime of dedication to harnessing potential energies and breathing life into them.

12th House Planets Musing

tree-3080406_640

I see a lot of talk about 12th house planets.

There’s no coincidence there, as the 12th house is known as the house of mystery and most everyone loves a good mystery. It’s clouded in confusion and can even be associated with darker things such as depression and hidden enemies. There’s a positive and negative association with every house — sometimes the line between the two isn’t clear. This is even more accurate when discussing the 12th house.

What if you don’t connect naturally to your 12th house planets?

Those who don’t connect naturally to their 12th house, but still have planets placed there in their natal chart, might complain of depression, lack of focus, confusion on how to succeed in life, difficulty finding happiness or a purpose, paranoia, apathy, etc. These are all very common as the 12th without a true cause to represent can feel lonely to the point of being painful. The 12th house can seem contradictory because it often produces those who prefer to be alone or at least those who are more secretive about their private lives. It really represents the collective, which is inside each and every one of us, and is anything BUT lonely. The fog needs to be lifted to see this connection and in order for those struggling with the energy to not feel so out of place.

How can we reconnect with our 12th house?

Everyone has their own way that works. For some it takes days, for some it takes years, but the key is patience. When you decide to devote yourself to connecting to your 12th house planets (or even just the sign ruling the 12th) you will notice little miracles all around you in your daily life. Synchronicities will line up. Things will start connecting. Your body will feel lighter, your heart will feel fuller, blessings will surround you, and life will make sense again. There will be a sense of purpose and beauty in your life that you may have lost or never even felt before.

Take a look at your 12th house.

Check if you have planets sitting inside your 12th house. If you do, check the following:

  • What sign is the planet in?
  • What sign rules the cusp?
  • What is the cusp ruler and where does it reside in your chart?
  • What aspects does this planet make to other planets and parts of your chart?
  • What element, mode, and strength does this planet hold?

Feel out the energies these 12th house planets hold. They create energy lines from your 12th to other parts of your chart, mapping out spiritual guidelines for this lifetime. It’s an awesome way of figuring out a life path that can deeply fulfill your soul. Map out your own destiny through exploring your 12th house energies and begin your journey to true satisfaction.

How do I connect with my 12th house?

I personally connect with my 12th house energies by taking time every day to meditate. I do this in order to silence my thinking mind and reinforce that my soul has space to make its deepest desires and dreams known. I give special attention to my body/mind/soul connection through yoga. I try to spend time in nature, observing the daily cycles and appreciating how truly beautiful it all is. All of these things help my 12th house sun feel connected and thrive. I feed my 12th house Pluto by acceptance, letting go of that which does not serve me in a positive way and turning seemingly negative things into blessings. I observe my own personal power and stay true to myself rather than repressing that which hurts me, building my strength and becoming grounded in who I am as a person. I use gentleness to heal my deepest wounds. I write out my dreams and allow inspiration to flow into me whenever it pleases, staying blissfully open and engaged with the spiritual and physical worlds. I have faith in the universe and faith in myself.

How do you harness the energy of your 12th house? What are your thoughts on the energy found there?

Thoughts on the Full Moon Eclipse Feb. 10, 2017

landscape-2370505_640

Just a little musing about this full moon eclipse coming up in 22 degrees Leo.

I’m calling this full moon and eclipse the Chiron Activation eclipse. It sits exactly on my Chiron, activating an opposition with my moon (so sun is conjunct my natal moon also), a trine with my North Node, and a square to my Pluto, as well as some other minor aspects with Mars and Jupiter.

When I first saw this, I’m going to be honest, I panicked a tiny bit. I turned to Bernadette Brady and her awesome book The Eagle and The Lark which informed me that this saros cycle is a positive one. There may be a pleasant surprise, a lucky break, and/or sudden joy.

This is further supported by the easy, free-flowing energy between the Sun, Jupiter, Moon, and Uranus, which gives us a mystic rectangle. Each of these planets are working together. The Sun and Moon are of course opposing along with Jupiter and Uranus- this creates friction that the trines and sextiles easily use to create positive change. There is a spiritual energy coming from this eclipse and the prediction of sudden joy, pleasant surprises, etc. are easily seen as these energies play with each other.

Though Chiron isn’t making a major aspect to the eclipse, he is in a quincunx, adding some annoyance to what the Moon is trying to achieve. I’m taking a look at the energy of my natal  Chiron because of the conjunction it’s making to my chart, but I suggest taking a look at yours also. Eclipses can hit on emotionally charged times, especially with this full moon showing its face, and I feel Chiron could always use some attention during them. How can you heal yourself from past wounds or restrictive thinking that is bringing you down in order to allow yourself to thrive? This eclipse IS about thriving, so take the steps to free yourself from mental and emotional chains. Don’t let the annoyance keep you from the potential this eclipse can unlock for you.

On a further note, anyone else super excited for CHANGE? From negativity to healthy expressions, from being stuck to soaring? This Leo energy can re-spark your creative flame. It can help you discover your true self and how you can live your life as authentically as possible. Embrace it, enjoy it.

Much love to you all. Happy full moon eclipse!

8th Subtleties

fantasy-2623295_640

The 8th house rules the astral plane. What does this mean? It means that the 8th house and planets that reside there can dictate the types of emotions you pick up on in certain situations. For example, Mars in the 8th means you may pick up on others’ anger or sexual desires more strongly than anything else- it may make you feel like others embody those types of feelings more than they actually do. You are sensitive to those feelings, essentially. Moon in the 8th means you may pick up on others’ emotions, making it easy for you to read people, but also exaggerates their emotions. If you have a planet in the 8th house, you likely see that planet in others before their other energies. When you’re guessing someone’s sign, it’s likely you’re drawn to the planet that’s in your 8th. Mars in the 8th? You’re probably pretty good at picking out their Mars sign above their sun.

Keep in mind the things you notice in this realm are magnified. Take time to figure out what this means for you. If you have Pluto in your 8th, you may fear others and the harm they can do- perhaps you feel paranoid that others are trying to change you, control you, hiding secrets from you. This is not always the case, so tread lightly.

The 8th ruling the astral plane can also mean you can access your 8th house energies through your dreams (paired with the 12th but that’s a whole different story.) Your dreams likely channel the energies of your combined 8th and 12th house planets and energies- it’s how your higher self teaches you lessons.

You attract situations involving your 8th house planets and energies so healing those energies is crucial. You put out that energy, you receive that energy. Don’t repress any part of your 8th house energy or it will come around over and over again until you learn how to ‘let go’ truly and not just bury. The 8th is intense, not easily dealt with, and quite frankly, uncomfortable. Delving into your 8th is pure shadow work- you need to work on your shadow so you can integrate it in a positive way. Once you heal that, you will attract the positive connections. You will feel a connection to those around you and begin to find meaningful, deep relationships (friendships included). Meaning will fill your connections with others. The astral becomes your friend.

Cancer Full Moon, January 12th 2017

nature-3058859_640

I am unsure how to start this post because there is simply too much to say about this full moon coming up in less than 12 hours. I know I’m late in posting this, and I even tried to avoid the responsibility I felt in writing something about it, but here I am…being pulled in…as Luna does every time.

Welcome to the Cancer Full Moon energy, the truest of all full moons, the deepest part of the moon’s soul. Luna is opposing the Capricorn Sun, sending a message to us about our emotional nature and the way we structure our lives. For me, personally, I see this message quite clear. This particular full moon sits right on top of my Mars, urging me to take to heart the lessons the Cancer Full Moon is shining in my face: feel and don’t stop feeling. Don’t apologize for feeling. Live to the point of tears, as my dearest Albert Camus said (also shares with me the same Mars placement in degree and sign, as well as Sun/Moon/Mercury!!). I am truly grasping this concept, learning that these tears are not always sad, but can be beautiful as well. Embrace the beauty that brings you to tears.

Enough about me though, what does this mean for everyone? It follows along the same lines. Take a look at how you live your life- are you forcing yourself to repress certain emotions? Are you allowing your emotions to rule your life? Are you feeling numb or apathetic? Are you feeling overwhelmed and manic? All these things can relate to being too heavily reliant on one side of this teeter-totter. If you feel like Capricorn is weighing too heavily on you to where you can’t find joy in simple things or you’re too exhausted to enjoy relaxing at home and with those you love, then look to Cancer and bring some nurturing into your life. If you feel like Cancer is weighing too heavily on you to where you’re depressed, lonely, or letting your emotions get the better of you, look to Capricorn, set some easily achievable goals and go for them, bring a little more structure to your life, but don’t forget to do so while having an open heart.

In general, this full moon is making some rough connections with other big players in the horoscope for Thursday: A Grand Cardinal Cross to be exact. It urges us to get moving but also cautioning that it’s not going to be that easy to do so. Lessons are being dished out left and right, so navigate with care. In fact, rather than physically ‘getting moving,’ I suggest making a plan first. The full moon is opposing Pluto which is conjunct the sun, transforming ourselves in order to better connect with our emotional nature (that’s the goal at least) as well as squaring Jupiter and Uranus (think wide-scale and sudden). Jupiter and Uranus are of course squaring the sun/Pluto as well, forcing us into the widescale transformations.

If this is making you panic, stop, take a breath, and listen. YOU have the ability to transform this intense energy into something beautiful, something healing for yourself. The way to survive any transit, no matter how ‘possibly difficult,’ is to go at it with an open heart and to learn to let go of all that is unneeded and to trust that this is boosting you toward where you are meant to be in order to be the best version of yourself. The stars will bring the energy, it’s up to you to use it in a positive way. So get excited! It’s a great time to make goals, set resolutions, create intentions, meditate, focus on compassion, write down your feelings, etc.

The full moon wants to cradle you in her arms, whispering secrets of the universe into your ear until you fall fast asleep and dream up ways to create a beautiful reality.

Much love and light,

Vesta Lyn

Moon square Pluto

fire-549103_960_720

Free flowing ideas on Moon square Pluto:

I have many ‘difficult’ aspects in my chart, and Moon square my Pluto is one of them. When you add the nurturing and emotional nature of the moon with the death, intensity and regeneration of Pluto, you get a lot of emotional transformations. Lots of upheaval. It’s an every day struggle to balance my mind, emotions, and the undercurrents of the unconscious with each other. Giving up the struggle would cause a downward spiral into the dark abyss, meaning, attention is necessary. For those with this placement- you are truly blessed with a bittersweet predicament. Bitter will come first- you will be thrown obstacles consistently through out your life involving emotional areas. You will fall to the depths and then use your hidden power to rise up when you feel all is lost. Then comes the sweet- this placement, when overcoming hardships, feels stronger than ever before (and they are!). They can take the punches and roll through them victorious. They are the warriors of human emotion, passion, and depth. It’s a bumpy road and the road won’t stop until one has learned the lesson. And in this case, it’s all or nothing. Learning to be one with your emotions and the dark side of life is not an easy task. It gets exhausting and many people tend to give up after awhile and live unfulfilled emotional lives, or even kill themselves. But the ones who trek through will keep building their reserves of power and can spread these reserves to help others in need. Developing compassion is the goal for this combination. Once found and integrated, this person can change the world with their experience and help soothe the wounds of the world. Nowhere is too deep for them to travel, nothing too dark, they will go where no one else is willing to go in order to accomplish great good.

To add, I wrote this excerpt awhile ago and happened upon it again which inspired me to publish it to this blog. I want to say that working with this aspect, as well as any other aspect, takes a more in depth look at your chart. What energies flavor your Moon and Pluto, what signs/houses are they in? What other aspects do they make? What sign rules the house cusp they reside inside of? Take all these things and mesh them into a plan toward healing and bringing out the best side of this combination. And, of course, my advice on everything, meditate! Take time to listen to silence, and the answers will arise.

12/9/16 Aspects

flame-3159300_640

Saturn and the Sun are exactly conjunct today. The sun is trying desperately to keep in the mood of Sagittarius season, but with Saturn on top of him, it might be difficult. Even in Sagittarius, there may be extreme pressure from the cosmos today. You may not even know where this feeling is coming from. Take some time to relax, take deep breaths, and realize that whatever is happening will pass. You can work extra hard to create your vision of the future when the sun leaves Saturn’s realm, but at this point, feel free to either hone in on that energy if you can handle it, or ignore Saturn telling you GET IT DONE NOW, because it’s really not worth the stress.

The Moon has also teamed up with Uranus, creating an unsteady feeling in MY stomach, and possibly yours too. Uranus here can cause sudden upsets, especially in Aries and with Mars connecting so closely in a sextile, so try and stay clear of arguments and appreciate individual approaches.

Uranus on the moon with Saturn on the sun can create discord, and the energy of the two are firey and flowing easily between each other with a trine, possibly making you feel uneasy and uncomfortable. There may be an excess of emotional energy that you have no idea what to do with. Mediate, write, draw, do anything to get that energy out! It needs to go somewhere or it’ll manifest in other ways.

The Ascendant Sign as Baby Birds

bird-2234964_960_720

I have been reading Howard Sasportas recently and came across a technique I quite fancy. He briefly mentions the rising sign as a baby bird hatching from its shell. What kind of a bird is this? How does this bird hatch from its shell? These are the questions the sign of the ascendant answers, showing how you approach new things. I thought it’d be a fun exercise to do a write up on the signs and their bird’s hatching personality, so here it is! Feel free to comment, message, or respond with your own creative interpretations.

Aries rising: You almost violently peck away at the shell surrounding you, eager to see what that brightness is on the outside- eager to see what the ‘outside’ actually is! You break open the shell and immediately jump out, feeling spiky pine-needles under your feet, step up the edge of the nest, and burst into the air, ready to explore the world!

Taurus rising: You know its time to break open your shell but you’re warm and you’re unsure of what you’ll find. You can feel yourself crushed against the edges and know you can’t stay much longer. You worry about your safety. You realize your tummy is rumbling. You decide to break open the shell with steady punctures to the same side. The world is bright. You scream for food and your mother shoves crushed worms down your throat. You feel the cool breeze on your feathers. Maybe this isn’t so bad…

Gemini rising: You can hardly wait to burst out of this shell, you can’t stop thinking of all the possibilities that the outside has to offer! You start to peck. The light that shines through the cracks delights you so much you start to sing. You hear your mother singing back. You peck yourself to freedom and take in the colors, the vast assortment of sounds. You thought you’d be satisfied seeing the outside, but you are more curious than ever.

Cancer rising: You know you have to leave your shell, but the thought of it makes you want to cry. You secretly fear you will never find the comfort of your shell again. You refuse to leave. Eventually, you grow so large you break open your shell. You cry because the air is so cold and the sky is so bright. Your mother curls up next to your side. The light seems more bearable and the warmth is better than you ever thought possible. You feel like you can do anything!

Leo rising: You wait until sounds around your shell quiet, and you know it’s your time. You peck yourself out of your shell, opening your wings as if embracing the world. The others in the nest look at you in awe. You know how to make an appearance. The sun shines through your feathers just right and you feel like the king of the world.

Virgo rising: You peck once in the lower left corner of your shell, once in the lower right, and three times at the very top, creating a hole perfectly big enough to fit yourself through. You leave the shell, wipe off the remnants, and shake yourself off.

Libra rising: You hear the chatter outside your shell and excitedly peck yourself out of it, eager to join the others. You know it’s the right time because they are all out of their shells already. You wobble your way over to the other birds, stand directly in the middle of two of your siblings, and learn how to chirp with the rest of them.

Scorpio rising: You’re extremely apprehensive about leaving your shell. There seems to be something not right ‘out there.’ Even though you hear your other siblings, you have a feeling they will all start to shriek any second now. You realize that whatever danger is out there, they can’t handle it on their own! You burst through your shell with one fierce peck. Everything seems okay. You start to relax…but keep a sharp piece of your shell near by ‘just in case…’

Sagittarius rising: You peck three times, then twice, then a couple more, and eventually you are free. What does this mean? Freedom? You ask your mother. She tries to feed you a worm. You try to explain that you don’t have time for such trivialities but she insists. You take the worm, choke it down, then fly into the air without any goodbyes. There’s too much to explore, too little time to explore it!

Capricorn rising: You weigh the pros and cons of leaving your shell. Cons, you will no longer be warm, you are unsure of what is out there, you are actually kind of scared (you take that back, you’re never scared). Pros, there’s so much more potential outside of your shell as inside there are zero. You decide to make the leap. You peck yourself out of your shell, slowly, and deliberately. You observe your surroundings and decide how you are going to manipulate them to your benefit.

Aquarius rising: You have no reason for pecking in random intervals at the shell around you, but you find yourself doing it anyway. There’s a peck there, three pecks here, you take a short break and ponder what a strange process birthing is. You eventually end up outside of your shell covered in million tiny pieces. You see your siblings on the other side of the nest trying to share a worm. You wobble over and cut it into equal pieces and you all share together happily.

Pisces rising: You don’t even need to peck open your shell because it melts away around you. The nest melts away too and you find yourself floating in the warmth of the sun you never knew existed until that day, and you wonder how you got there, quickly lose the thought, and just enjoy the moment.
