You Can’t Rush Your Healing- Chiron

“Grief can be the garden of compassion. If you keep your heart open through everything, your pain can become your greatest ally in your life’s search for love and wisdom.” -Rumi

Whenever I check astrology forums, astrology facebook groups, or even the stats on this blog, one thing stands out above the rest. That is Chiron. I wrote a post years ago about Chiron in our charts and highlighted the influence of Chiron on each of the 12 houses. You can check out that post here if you’re interested.

Why is Chiron so wildly popular when it was just discovered in 1977? Do we even know that much about it? The answer is in Chiron’s energy- one people are drawn to more and and more every day.

Chiron is known as the “Wounded Healer” and represents an area of deep wounding in each and every one of us. It takes devotion, discipline, hard work, patience, and a lot of compassion to walk the road of Chiron. Many people start to walk it and end up falling off and some avoid it at all costs. It’s not easy, and it’s not a light subject- so why are people so drawn to it?

I can only guess it’s because people are now ready to take the plunge. They realize that what is ‘easy’ is no longer fulfilling. They are ready to take on the lessons Chiron has for them, and ultimately ready to dig up the wounds that have been buried.

Chiron deals with the unconscious in most individuals- trauma gets buried (whether from this life or another) and creates fears, anxieties and frustrations in the consciousness of the person. Many don’t know where those fears are coming from and instead of taking a closer look, avoid situations that trigger that fear. This knowledge teamed with the desire to heal brings us to Chiron’s popularity:

We, The Human Race, see the pain and understand that it can be transcended.

We, The Human Race, see the pain and understand we can help ourselves and others heal.

How do we find the path? We look inside ourselves. You cannot draw a map or write step by step directions on how to heal your Chiron wound- each person has a unique path. You’ll have to cut the vines yourself, there will be no clear cut route and no footsteps to follow. You’re a trailblazer in your own personal healing journey. You are the one you need.

Your astrological birth chart can definitely help you find direction, but it cannot put in the work. There are no corners to cut. Some things you CAN use to help yourself though involve taking a look at your birth chart and following the energies of Chiron. Use the following to create your Chiron story:

  • What house does Chiron inhabit
  • What sign does Chiron inhabit
  • What is the cusp ruler of Chiron’s natal house
  • Check out the aspects Chiron makes in your chart
  • Check out recent transits/progressions
  • Later on, check Chiron in synastry and observe the interactions

The main goal of Chiron is healing YOURSELF, but the further you travel on the path, the more you will affect others without even trying. The brighter your energy becomes, the more light you will spread. Eventually, your wound will become your shield against the darkness.

“The cure for the pain is in the pain.” Rumi

December 27th Musings

I was recently gifted a new oracle deck for Christmas, the Rumi Oracle by Alana Fairchild. The energy when holding the deck immediately told me it had things to say and that I needed to listen. After becoming acquainted with each card, I pulled one for the day asking what lessons it had for me. The card I pulled was the Dance of the Divine Feminine.

If a tree could move
from one place to another,
it would not suffer the pain of the saw
or the oppressive wounds.

If the Sun and the Moon
stood still like the rocks,
they could not offer brilliance.

How bitter the taste of water would be,
if the river stopped its flow
remaining still like seawater.

When the seawater rises
to become a cloud,
it loses its bitterness
and pours the rain of sweetness.

I have given you only a few examples.
You can figure out the rest.
Break away from the self
and enter the Kingdom of Love

This message could not be more appropriate for what is going on in my life but also for the astro weather brewing. Neptune is making some major aspects, asking us to delve into the divine, while Saturn holds one of Venus’s hands and the Sun holds the other. She’s moving away from the restriction of Saturn and into the creative arms of the Sun. Neptune is forcing Mars to take a deeper look before he hits Jupiter and expands his energies outward. Neptune wants Mars to use his energy in a healing way, bringing in Mercury to help connect everything together.
The moon is dancing, though briefly, through it all, twirling with Uranus and showing her deepest individualistic expression. Her eyes are closed and she doesn’t care if anyone is watching- she just wants to feel the energy in the air as Uranus fills her with electricity.

This card is telling us to take control of our lives. Don’t be afraid to make some changes; Saturn might make us feel like our energies are stifled but he really wants us to let go of what isn’t serving us. He’s highlighting areas we feel inadequate about and telling us to hone in on them, work on them, and gain back our confidence. We often stay stagnant because of fear- we don’t know enough, we aren’t strong enough, people will laugh at us, we can’t succeed. Saturn is telling us to stop the self-defeating talk, follow our dreams and ignite our desires instead of hiding behind fear. Everyone does this in a different way- my way is finding the divine feminine inside myself and allowing her to break free of the restrictions I’ve held her under for too long. If the water around you tastes bitter, shake things up- allow fresh water to flow through.

Welcome home Saturn!

I have been seeing plenty of material over the last few weeks written about Saturn entering Capricorn yesterday so instead of writing anything on it myself, I soaked in the last of Sagittarius/Saturn energy and rode the waves into Capricorn. I wanted to feel the full extent instead of intellectualizing it, which I have a tendency to overdue, and let me tell you…it felt great! Honestly, it was liberating, which would seem a little odd for Saturn, bearer of chains, entering its ruling sign of hard working Capricorn. I guess my Aquarius moon dancing with my natal Saturn feels more than happy to have Capricorn controlling Saturn again- Sagittarius just didn’t really know what to do with him!

I know that’s how I felt in my case- how do I blend those two energies? I had a lot of great ideas, and now that Saturn is back in Capricorn, I feel the freedom to carry out those ideas to the best of my abilities. Beautiful!

Immediately, the Virgo midheaven I am, I decided to start a plan of action for 2018. I’m ready to hunker down again and get the ball rolling on the things I’m most passionate about instead of making excuses as to why I can’t. Many people write down intentions for moon phases, and those are great for short term goals, but this is prime time for long term goals. Where do you want to be in three years? What can you do to get there? What do you need to work harder on and what might you need to let go? You have two and a half years to utilize the strength of Saturn in Capricorn, and then another two and a half to expand upon that with Aquarius. This is where you do the work and reap the rewards. Saturn wants to help you succeed.

Saturn/Chiron aspects in Synastry

Saturn aspects with Chiron in synastry can show a relationship drenched in seriousness. There is nothing light about these placements- there will always come with this combination a tone of serious responsibility.

If your Saturn is conjunct a partner’s Chiron, you are the Saturn force in their life, bringing about structure. You likely have a checklist of things you think may help the other person, or feel a deep commitment to healing them. Whether you do this consciously or not, the Chiron person may feel you are an elixir sent to soothe their wounds.

If your Chiron is conjunct a partner’s Saturn, your partner is touching the most vulnerable parts of your soul and actually has the power to heal those parts. You probably feel strongly about committing to this person, but it’s not uncommon to feel overwhelmed by this person’s transformational presence in your life.

In many cases, especially with squares and oppositions, Chiron either feels too smothered or Saturn feels like they aren’t being met in the middle. Saturn may feel like they are always having to help Chiron- without positive ways to express this, the relationship can wither. With any Chiron/Saturn combination, a breakup is often an arduous process that neither party feels is completely ‘right’ but continues with anyway. Both parties can feel like they don’t completely work together but that a strong pull forces them back together or at least forces a desire to get back together over and over again.
Chiron might feel too smothered by Saturn and actually create more wounds by shutting themselves off. If the relationship doesn’t continue, both parties will feel the pain of separation. These aspects can show a lifetime of pain, regret, or sorrow over the relationship if not ended in an open and honest manner. Both parties will remember what they had when they had it for the rest of their lives considering this is a karmic position, predicting that they have played major roles in each other’s past lives.

With a trine or a sextile between Saturn and Chiron, the healing journey may come easier than with the square and opposition. More fond memories may be shared, and even if the relationship ends, both may feel they learned a lot from the relationship and are grateful they were able to experience it.

If you are currently in a relationship with this synastry aspect, the main lesson learned from this is to be open, honest, raw, and vulnerable with each other. Both parties can grow and heal a great deal if the communication is allowed to flow freely and without judgement.

Welcome to Mercury Retrograde!

Mercury stationed direct December 3rd and turned retrograde December 4th at the very end of Sagittarius- just before it entered into Capricorn. Mercury wasn’t ready to solidify the lessons learned while transiting Sagittarius. Mercury will take the next month to rewind, reflect, and relearn. January 11th 2018 is when these lessons will be solidified; Mercury will enter Capricorn and finally turn ideas into reality.

Mercury retrograde is known for disruptions in travel, communication mistakes, scheduling difficulties, technology malfunctions and the past coming back to ‘haunt’ us. All of these things are more likely during Mercury Retrograde, but that’s not all there is to it.

Think about what this means- Mercury, the actual planet in the sky, looks as if it is moving backward in its orbit. In reality, it’s not moving backward, it just looks like it is. Take this into account when analyzing how it affects us- there may be scheduling errors, problems with travel, technology issues, communication not going as planned, etc. All of this is due to perceiving the situations incorrectly (perceiving that the planet is moving backward but it’s really not). How can we remedy this? Be patient, take your time, avoid making huge decisions especially regarding signing contracts- things are foggy, and with careful planning mistakes can be avoided, but it’s better to wait until the fog lifts.

You don’t have to hide under a rock until December 23rd and the retrograde is over. Mercury retrograde can be an amazing time for reflection and reworking things you’ve put to the side. It’s also a great time to focus on your dreams, writing down and thinking about what they might be trying to tell you. It’s a time for silence and reflection.

This specific Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius will be in a trine to Uranus. Uranus can create even more difficulties surrounding technology on a mundane level, but on a personal development level, it can show great strides in communicating with ourselves. Uranus can create an electric environment, and with Mercury turning your thoughts inward, it creates a lot of mental energy that will need to be harnessed effectively. Writing down random thoughts, creating a log for your dreams upon waking, making lists of what needs to be done, etc. are all ways you can harness this energy. Don’t let this intense energy turn into nervous energy- skip the paranoia and worry and trust yourself and the universe to provide. Trust that you can get through whatever is thrown your way and the worries will fade. New ideas will be sparked; you can take past situations and see them in a completely different light, aiding in healing past wounds. Inspiration will strike if you’re letting yourself be open to it.

What does this mean for you and where should you focus?

Aries; This Mercury retrograde is about expanding your mind and your energy. You’ll want to reflect on where you want to go from where you currently reside, mentally, physically, and spiritually. Talk to yourself about your views on life and decide if they are helping or hindering your path. Decide what you want your path to be and write down steps to bring yourself toward manifesting those desires.

Taurus; You might feel yourself in uncomfortable territory with this Mercury Retrograde because it’s asking you to look deeply inside yourself and how you relate to others on a level beyond the surface. You might want to avoid the past, or you might not want to let it go, but you’re being asked to stare straight into the abyss and confront what you see. If you’ve been holding onto past hurts or any sort of bitterness, reflect on why you can’t loosen your grip. The theme is to understand and then to let go.

Gemini; Other people may seem less than transparent with you but look at yourself and decide if you are being completely open and honest. Reflect on how you wish others would treat you and if you are allowing that energy into your life, or if you are showing it yourself to others. This Mercury Retrograde season wants you to reflect on your relationships with others, both currently and in the past, and figure out how you can do things more positively and from the heart.

Cancer; What do you do on a daily basis that nourishes your body and soul? Mercury demands you look inside yourself and ask if you’re treating yourself with love and respect. Create a plan for adding in positivity to your daily life. You’ve likely already been thinking about this and brewing up some ideas on how to create a better life for yourself mentally and physically.

Leo; Uranus teaming up with Mercury Retrograde this season is likely to spawn a massive amount of creativity for you! Write down all your ideas, even ones that might seem silly, and hold them close to you. These are very potent times for self-evaluation. Reflect on what you feel confident about, what you want to bring into the world, fun relationships with others and how you can bring about the most light. Reflect on your inner child and if you are feeding them or hindering their expression. If you are hindering your inner child use this Mercury Retrograde to get to know them and relearn how to play.

Virgo; Thinking about your childhood (maybe even your own children) is likely to pop up this Mercury retrograde. Your home needs to be a cozy environment for you to thrive during this season. Observe how your environment affects your mood. You are a prime candidate for dream mapping this month. You can use this as one technique to heal childhood traumas and painful memories from your past. Your family and home will be the number one source of comfort this month.

Libra; This season is about taking a look at how you communicate with others and how important words can be. Think things through before impulsively jumping in. You should also look at how you talk to yourself and whether it brings about positive or negative results. Writing down, speaking, or reading new ideas will continuously spark new ones. Observe whether you are afraid of sharing your voice with others and take steps to be more confident, if you lack confidence, in sharing your ideas.

Scorpio; A more serious tone is needed for this Mercury Retrograde, asking you to reflect on what you call your own and decide if it’s a healthy attachment or one creating discord. Ask yourself if you’re living by your truest values, in fact, ask yourself what those values are! Write them down, explore them, hone in on what needs to be done to live according to your soul. Are you relying too much on material things or feel like you’re missing a part of yourself? Dive into these feelings- you will find out what is missing and what you can do to bring peace back into your life.

Sagittarius; Internally, you’ll need to take a look at yourself and decide if you are being authentically you. How are you denying yourself, how are you rewarding yourself, how are you presenting yourself to others? If you’ve felt lost, now is the time to find yourself. Take a step back from life if it is too chaotic to spend time with yourself to think.

Capricorn; This Mercury retrograde will be extra foggy for you, possibly making you uncomfortable with what comes up. What have you been hiding from yourself and others? Have you been denying yourself or others crucial parts of your life? Secrets will bubble up either during or right after Mercury Retrograde, either outwardly or internally, and you’ll be forced to deal with what you’ve repressed. Do you have resentments you need to let go of? Stare into the abyss (Taurus will be staring at it with you) and don’t run from what you see. Think about compassion, for yourself and others, and decide how you can incorporate it in your life.

Aquarius; You’ll be pleased with Uranus connecting with this Mercury Retrograde because it means extra insights into your hopes, dreams, and plans for the future. It can provide new ways of looking at friendships and how they either bring about positivity or negativity to your life. Ask yourself what you want your future to look like and if the people or situations you surround yourself with help or hinder that dream.

Pisces; The way others see you might weigh heavily on your mind during this season. Are you presenting yourself in a way you’re proud of? Are you obsessing too much about success or lack of it? Think about how you judge yourself and others depending on their ‘status’ or perceived success. Spend time reshaping your views on success, jobs, the future, and reputation into a more positive and compassionate approach. Write down your plans for the future and how you can take steps to get there without harming your own sense of self or others.

A quick look at Eris

Eris recently caught my eye and after doing hours of research I realized that not many people write about this dwarf planet. Many don’t bother to look at Eris in their charts, but for those who have Eris conjuncting a personal planet or making a tight aspect to important parts of their chart, they might come up frustrated in their search for meaning.

Though Eris hasn’t been studied extensively and there are many different theories on how it plays out in our charts, it’s worth taking a look at.

Eris is known as being rather treacherous. She belongs with Mercury, painting herself as a trickster in the arena of archetypes, but also connects with Mars and Aries as she demands action. She is known to cause discord and chaos. I do not believe Eris is intrinsically bad. Just like Pluto can cause major destruction, it’s well known that that destruction is making way for better and brighter things in our lives. It’s clearing out what we either didn’t know needed to be cleared or were to scared to scared to clean out ourselves. Eris follows this same rule but in a different twist. She desires transformation in the way one approaches and thinks, and she often does it in a unique and poetic way. Being creative about teaching one harsh lessons can seem cruel, but we must let her abide by her personal flavor. You can’t take the trick out of the trickster, you can just learn what they’re trying to teach you.

Essentially, Eris is brash and unapologetic, but she is not cruel. She uses clever tactics in order to force you to think deeply about what she’s telling you. She works in metaphors and symbols, urging you to delve in rather than ignore. If she is ignored, dire consequences are to be had. The more you push her out, the harder she will strike. The earlier you acknowledge and the more flexible you are in adhering to what she’s teaching, the lighter the ‘sentence’ will be.

Take a look at your chart- planets in TIGHT aspect to Eris and the house Eris resides in shows where you likely learn most of your harsh lessons through difficult ordeals that may seem simply ‘unfair.’ These ordeals may be very shocking, seem cruel, or have you saying ‘why me?’ Perhaps on a lighter side they may be ironic or even humorous. Eris in a house can shed light on where you’ve been forced to change your mind and be more flexible. It’s possible that you will have to morph your ways relating to the house/planet for the rest of your life- hopefully with it being easier and easier as time goes on.
